More knitting, etc.

The "rouge" colored shawl that I mentioned in the previous post turned out very nice.  Sorry, but I forgot to photograph it before turning it in.

At present, I'm about 2/3 finished with another shawl (apple green colored yarn) using what I call Mulberry Stitch (actually its a Double Seed Stitch).  K2, P2 for two rows, then P2, K2 for two rows.  I have made one like this before.  Will try to remember to take a pic when finished.

Actually, there is a picture in my previous post of a blue shawl made with the mulberry stitch.

Hope you have a great week!

Knitting another prayer shawl.

At the beginning of our Prayer Shawl Ministry season this fall (no meetings during the summer), I began making a shawl with a navy blue yarn.  As I do need new glasses, I found it hard to see the stitches well enough to feel comfortable.  The day after that meeting, I ripped the navy out and began using a reddish color called Rouge which is much easier to work with.  The pattern design is basket weave (k4, p4 across x 4 rows, then p4, k4 across.  This one is nearly half done and should be finished by the early November meeting.

Last week, my friend Pat and I went to Hobby Lobby where I purchased several skeins of their "I Love This Yarn" worsted acrylic.  It is SO soft and makes up nicely.  Will choose one of the colorways I bought (several contrasting colors).

Happy Knitting!

Pictures of prayer shawls made this year........

I made these earlier this year but was unable to post them a while ago.  Trying again.......

I used yarn from the stash at the church for our group.  Fun to make and it used up lots of leftovers.

The green variegated yarn shawl was made with yarn that I had on hand.
The blue shawl is made from yarn I found on sale!

The off white crochet is from my own stash as well as the yellow one below.

Finally, I was able to post these pictures!

Most recent prayer shawl

A close friend recently was found to have breast cancer mets to the brain requiring surgery and gamma knife treatments.  I decided to make her a prayer shawl.  Its in the mail now and I hope she enjoys this shawl and that it brings her a lot of comfort.

Prayer Shawl update........Oct 3rd.......

This morning, I attended the first fall gathering of the Prayer Shawl Ministry.  There were three new ladies in attendance....actually we had quite a turn-out.  Its always fun chatting with the friends I've made.  Today, I dropped off three prayer shawls.....a wine colored 3 corner shawl, a pink and white rectangular shawl and one which was left over from late spring which I finished over the summer....it was with a green variegated yarn by Vanna (Lion brand) which was also rectangular and I had added rows of black yarn between the green and also around the edges of the whole piece.

Today, I worked on a navy blue crochet shawl which I just began.

Although I took pictures of the shawls, I still am unable to post photos online since getting a new computer in early Sept.  Hopefully, I will get this problem solved soon!

Projects & weather

Hello....... now that its mid-September, the weather is cooler, especially at night as its easier to get a good night's sleep without the AC and with the windows open.

Since I got my new computer last week, I've been unable to load my digital camera software so that I can post pictures.  Hopefully, I can accomplish that soon!

I have finished the two unfinished prayer shawls that I began in the spring session of the Prayer Shawl ministry.  Also, made another triangular one.  I just started a new shawl that I'll be mailing to S.C. to a friend who recently had surgery.

Hope you have a great weekend!

How did we get to August already?!!!

Nothing much to post about.  The only knitting I've done over the past two months has been cotton dishcloths.  The weather has been too hot and muggy to knit with yarn that my hands will stick to.  I still have two unfinished prayer shawls!  Not what I'd plan to do, but it couldn't be helped.  I do plan to finish these two within the next couple weeks, so I can turn them in and begin another.  Our Prayer Shawl Ministry doesn't meet again until October, but I want to get back in the "groove".

Hope you have a nice weekend!

Hot, hot, hot!

I continue knitting cotton dishcloths, as before as it is quite hot yet and will be for a while according to recent weather reports.   When it does finally cool off, I'll finish off two prayer shawls.

During the day, I've been working on a quilt.  No pictures as of yet.

Hope you enjoy your summer and keep cool!

Quilt voting is over, etc.

My friend Pat and I didn't have enough votes, so we will not be progressing to the 2nd level. Thanks for your votes! Sweatshirt weather: Yesterday, June 1st was quite chilly and damp with rare peeks of the sun. Today, although there is sunshine, it is quite windy and chilly. Strange start for June! Next week sounds much better and I'm planning to get outside to do some weeding and planting. Have a great weekend!

Voting for my quilt, and prayer shawl progress

Voting for my quilt

Thank you so much to those of you who have been voting for my quilt!  Voting continues until mid September and you CAN vote daily.  Thanks again!

Currently, I'm finishing up on a near duplicate of the table mat I entered into the contest so that I can present it to my former neighbor who recently moved.

Here's the link:  http://ck.upickem.net/engine/Details.aspx?p=V&c=51634&s=19314031&i=1

Tonight is the last bi-monthly gathering of our prayer shawl ministry and I'm taking along my newest one which is not too large yet.  The other one is getting so heavy that I've had to limit my time working on it.  I'm sure you knitters will understand!

I'm planning to finish these two shawls, then do at least 1-2 more over the summer so that I will have 4 finished ones to donate when we meet again in October.

Happy knitting!

Quick update.......

Thank those of you who voted for my quilt in the McCall's quilt contest!  There are two more challenge levels, of which I as of yet have no information, but this contest goes in into September, so I'm being patient.

I continue to work on shawls for the prayer shawl ministry, enjoying every moment that I'm able to squeeze in.  Will take pictures when projects are complete.

The rhododendron in our yard has for a while, looked sickly.  Every year, the flowers have been smaller and we say that we really must replace the plant.  This year, we decided to leave it there for a while as its beautiful!

Have a great day!

Striped Prayer Shawl done

This was a fun shawl to knit.... I never got bored with it as I used different patterns and colors as you can see.

Last PM I began another shawl (also from church yarn stash)...it is a dark green/brown variegated yarn from Lion Brand.  Also, there is a soft boucle in a light moss green which will be used for contrast.

Tuesday, April 10th

The "scrappy" shawl is coming along nicely.  I measured the length last night and its 36", so not much more to go.  I'm thinking that I might add a narrow crocheted border with a variegated yarn that harmonizes with the yarns used.

Have a nice day!

Weds. Prayer Shawl Ministry gathering

What a fun time at today's gathering!  It's always nice to see what the other ladies have made and today's creations are all SO pretty...I wanted to make each one, but that's hardly possible......too many projects, not enough time!

While there, I worked on my newest project....a scrappy shawl with yarn I'd found in the donation drawers/boxes a while back.  Will take a picture soon.  There is a dark green with flecks of other colors, like peach, a bit of dusty burnt orange and yellow..  So, after the green strip (about 4" deep), I added another 4" or so deep section with the dusty burnt orange color, then a peach about 2" deep.  I'll continue on in this manner.  Oh, and each section is made of different patterns.....garter st., blackberry st. and seed st.

Have fun knitting and/or crocheting!

Awareness scarf nearly finished......

Yesterday, I finished knitting the tangerine colored scarf for my daughter.  I made it about 50" long.  Currently, I have it pinned to a "board" (actually two pieces of styrofoam covered with quilt batting) and gently sprayed with water.  Hopefully, it will lie flat then.  Today, I crocheted two pieces which will be sewn onto the scarf, then its on its way to my daughter.  Will post a picture before I mail it.

MS Awareness Scarf

My daughter Debbi has had MS for several years.  Recently, she asked if I'd make her a scarf like she had seen online.  It took me a while to find orange yarn (yes the MS awareness color is orange!)...it was made by Red Heart (called Red Heart Soft).  The color name is Tangerine.

Luckily I purchased two skeins as the first skein I began using was in a huge snarl.....taking nearly two hours to get nowhere near being able to use it!  After that, I decided to wait.  Then I began this past weekend, knitting about 7" long, but I decide it was much too wide and just wouldn't look good. Ripping it out (unripping?), I began knitting again last night and so far, so good.

You must be wondering where the "ribbon" is.  Well, I am making the ribbons (one for each end) separately, maybe in knit or maybe in crochet.  We shall see.  So, stay tuned for future updates and pictures!

Now, on to a different pattern and color...........

Recent finish.......

Although I have no photos to share, I did finish the cream potato chip scarf over the weekend.  With the unseasonably warm and beautiful weather we've had lately, I don't believe I will need to wear a scarf for a while!

The seed stitch prayer shawl should be finished soon, but not in time to take to the bi-monthly knitting group on Weds. night.

Happy knitting!

Sunday afternoon update.......

Good afternoon! Its sunny this afternoon and I'm loving it!

Besides sewing together some yo-yos, I've been knitting.....so the cream potato chip scarf has been growing longer. I work on the prayer shawl in the evenings and that is working up nicely. Its about 20" wide, a bit larger than the previous shawls.

Wednesday morning this week is the first of two bi-monthly gatherings of St. Andrew Prayer Shawl Ministry and I'll be taking the three shawls I've already made.

Have a great week!

Hugs, Karen

Progress on all things cream

Since I put two of the four cream projects aside (temporarily), I've made good progress on the prayer shawl (seed stitch) and the potato chip scarf. By the time I get around to posting here again, they should be finished, or nearly finished!

I'm looking forward to using a bit of color after this, as you can imagine!

Everything cream...................

This is really strange, I'm thinking......... You'll see what I mean when I post a few more pictures of ongoing projects. I always have a knitted dishcloth on the needles...that much is a given. I haven't worked on the current one lately. You've seen the crochet shell shawl I'm making for myself. Recently,I began a cream potato chip scarf for myself. I also began knitting a cream prayer shawl (seed stitch)! With all this cream going on, maybe I need some color!!!??? But, thats enough projects at one time for me. Once I finish one of these, I'll begin something in living color!

The prayer shawl is on the left...in front of it is the scarf, then the dishcloth and the shell shawl.

Finished prayer shawl..........

This piece measures about 15x60". I love the softness of this yarn and hope the recipient will enjoy wearing this cozy shawl.

Sun. Feb19th

The basketweave shawl will be finished very soon.....I'm using the last skein of yarn now.

The next shawl I create will be totally different as I need a change. Thinking, thinking, thinking........

Shawl progress...........

I've been knitting a shawl for the shawl ministry, so not spending much time on the crochet one for myself.

The yarn used here is by Loops & Threads (have not used this before), color name is Sage Butter Ombre. It feels very soft and smooth. When this piece is finished, I'll make a small swatch and toss it into the laundry to see how it looks and feels then.

A shawl for myself ...........

For a long time, I've thought about making myself a shawl and as I wanted a slight break from knitting, I chose a pattern from a crochet book which was for an afghan.  I simply began with half the required stitches and did a few rows last night.  I'm loving this!  The yarn is so soft and cuddly and the shells are so easy.

Here's a couple pictures...... the first is a close-up view so you can see the stitches.  The second is how it's going to look.  I have much more to do!

Finished shawls and another............

These are the two prayer shawls I made recently for the Prayer Shawl Ministry I am a part of.  I hope they bring much comfort to the recipients.

Although this is a bright sunny day, the colors are off........the blue shawl is much more vibrant.  The yellow is much lighter than it should be.  Well, you get the idea anyway, I hope!

Prayer Shawl Ministry

To date, I've made one shawl (yellow, triangular) and have nearly finished a rectangular blue one using a blackberry stitch.  When I finish the blue one, will photograph both and post here.

The next shawl is also going to be an elongated one as I've found that they finish up faster.  Lots of colors to choose from in my stash, but I think I'll probably choose off white.

Have a great weekend!
