Thurs. December 12th, 2013

Its been a while before I've posted on my blogs......While I have taken pictures of most of the prayer shawls I've made over the past few months, our camera will not upload to the computer........we need to get a new camera.

The prayer shawl ministry I belong to doesn't meet during the summertime, although I did make a couple of shawls to contribute.  Then, I went on to make a few scarves and hats to be donated to someone in need.  As it has been quite cold, I'm sure the recipients will be happy to have them.  So, for a while each day, I work on a knitted shawl, then change over to an in progress scarf.  Hope to have at least one of these finished to take to the meeting next week!

It is such a joy to meet with the women in the prayer shawl group!  I totally enjoy being with them and chatting while knitting.

Hubby and I need to finish Christmas shopping for our family, so hopefully we can get some done tomorrow as a snow storm is expected Saturday.

Keep warm if you're in an area where its cold!   BRRRR!

Welcome October!

This is my favorite month of the year.

Tomorrow, the prayer shawl group I belong to reunites after summer break.  It will be good to see the other ladies and begin knitting shawls again.  Actually, last night, I started a shawl using lavender solid and shades of lavender (called Monet).  It will be similar to other shawls I've made in the past for donation, bands of solids using various stitches, followed by the "Monet" variegated yarn in another band, and so forth.

In the past month, I've knitted several baby hats for donation/gifts.  Also, I knitted a small baby blanket with two strands of variegated shades of sea blue and a solid sea blue on large needles.  It will be perfect for use in the stroller or car seat.  This is for my niece Bethany's new baby boy born a little over one week ago.

Also, I knitted a few scarves for donation and gifts.

Have a great week!

Odds and ends............

Lately, I've been trying to finish up some projects, both knitted and crocheted.  Also, some quilting projects.

I've made a few knitted preemie baby hats for charity and plan to make a couple more.  Made a long scarf for a friend with some yarn she chose recently.  Made several knitted dishcloths for another friend.  I am knitting a shawl for myself (about half done now) with a pretty cream yarn.  I did make a potato chip scarf for myself in a beautiful yarn colorway called "Toasted Marshmallow".  Will take some photos of these things soon and post them here.

I've purchased enough yarn to get started on a couple prayer shawls in the knitting group I belong to.  First meeting is Oct. 1st.  Looking forward to seeing the other gals.

That's it for now.

Hope you've had a great weekend!

Remembering 9/11/01..........

Remembering 9/11/01 with sadness and with hope.

So many lives have been lost since 9/11.....the war seems never to be over.

Hoping for better, safer times.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!! Welcome September!!!

Today's weather was perfect........much less humidity, cool breezes, bright sunshine.  What more could I have asked for?!!!  As the past few nights were quite stuffy, causing restlessness, I think we're in for a good night for sleeping!

As far as handwork, I finished off a potato chip scarf a few nights ago, then began a prayer shawl in a soft light cream yarn.  So far, I've knitted about 9 inches.  Hopefully, the 2 skeins will be enough.  Otherwise, I'll be yarn shopping again.  When the cream one is finished, I'll begin a light dusty aqua (called azure) shawl.  I purchased a variegated yarn to use as a secondary color, which is beautifully colored shades of dusty light and dark aquas mixed in with shades of off white.

Happy knitting!

Picture of baby girl clothing I knitted..............

I met the sweet baby girl when she was two weeks old.  What a sweetheart she is!   In the meantime, I have seen pictures and video clips of her on Facebook.  Her name is Laila.  Happily, the clothing is too large for her at this time....it has been quite warm lately with no need for extra warmth.

Finishing up the little pink things!

The baby I've been making knitted items for was born overnight!  So, I will add a few last minute touches.  Before wrapping these gifts, I'll take a few pictures and share here.

Have a great Fourth of July!

June 17, 2013

Lately, well, the last 3 weeks, I've been knitting little pink things........first a blanket, a newborn sized sweater, two pairs of booties (all finished).  Now, I'm making another blanket and a hat.  Will post pictures when all are completed (hopefully before the baby is born!)  This baby will be a friend's great-grand-daughter to a first time Mom.

After a short hiatus to rest my hands, I'll be back to knitting prayer shawls and sewing prayer squares.

Have a great summer!

Well, I was going to catch up on my blogs, but for some reason, Blogger is quite slow, even stopping occasionally.  Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

Update.........

No photos to show today, but I wanted to post an update.

I finished the "for me shawl" just after my last post and then began a shades of brown shawl for the prayer shawl ministry which will be finished in a day or so.  Will take pictures (will try to remember!) before turning the brown shawl over to the ministry at next week's knitting gathering.  By that time, I will have begun another shawl, a colorway to be determined soon.

Have a great weekend.

Knitting...............

Today, I nearly finished a shawl for myself that I began making a year ago.  Actually, I'm doing a crocheted border around the whole thing.  So, it will be done quite soon.

Then, back to the prayer shawl I began last week for the Prayer Shawl Ministry I belong to.  The colors are  medium brown along with several shades of various tan/cream/brown yarns.  I'm doing several rows in different patterns to make it interesting texture-wise.

Also, making a navy knitted scarf for charity.

The "Girl Friends Valentine" was made by Susan Branch.  She shared it with FaceBook members today.  I love her work!

Feb. 1st, 2013

During the month of January, I made one crocheted shawl using a combination of yarns (both acrylic).  The sport weight yarn was a dark brown and the second shade which was a light tan was a fingering weight.  Of course, the dark yarn was the predominant color.  Will post a photo of it once I take one.

The last half of January, I knitted a blue toned yarn (several shades) using two contrasting strands.... all in garter stitch.  This one is quite cozy and warm feeling.  I made it wider than usual as I had a man's lap robe in mind.   No photo taken yet, but will add once I take one.

Usually I forget to take photos before turning the shawls in, but I need to make it a habit so I can refer to the shawls later, if needed.

RIP-ITs, etc.

"Unknitting" is unsettling to me, but I will not give up!  First, I began knitting a hat for my dau-in-law after Christmas.  I had made her a wool scarf which she liked and asked if she'd like a hat.  So, I tried a few patterns I found online and wasn't happy with the initial outcome, so ripped out two different ones.  On third try, the hat was way too large, so ripped it out again.  Now, the yarn is "resting".

A few days ago, I tried making another prayer shawl, this time using a half double crochet stitch.  After several rows, the piece felt like "armor"!  I had been using a "J" crochet hook!   Another rip out.  Today, I began anew with size 11 knitting needles using a garter stitch.  So far, so good.  It feels soft and stretch and not like "armor" at all.  Looks like I'm on the right track.

Have a great week!
